Golden State Warriors president and COO Rick Welts joined “Mornings with Joe, Lo & Dibs” on 95.7 Dubs Radio on Friday to discuss an array of topics — including the club's Chase Center project in the Mission Bay neighborhood.

“It's amazing to actually see all the equipment on the site and see this thing actually happen,” Welts said during his in-studio interview.

“It's been a five-year journey, obviously, but we're digging a big hole right now,” the exec added. “We're actually creating, you think about it as the biggest bath tub ever created because we're actually going down three levels of parking, which will be 200 feet from San Francisco Bay. So, that water table — it's right there. So, you really, literally, have to go down inch by inch until you get down three stories.”

Welts also addressed whether the Chase Center remains on track to open for the 2019-2020 NBA season.

“This summer — probably August — you'll start to see steel start to come up out of the ground,” Welts said. “We're 100 percent on target on finishing in summer of '19 and we'll have our first Warriors game there in the fall of the '19-'20 season.”
