The San Francisco 49ers fell to 1-10 on the season, losing their ninth straight game to the Seattle Seahawks, 24-13, on Sunday afternoon in Santa Clara.
Russell Wilson was his usual slippery self, avoiding about 29 sacks with an array of jukes and spin moves on the Levi’s Stadium grass, but if you’re a fan of the 49ers, the game wasn’t about the result — it was about the last three plays.
Rookie C.J. Beathard — who took 14 hits and was sacked three times in the game — went down with a minute left on the clock.
But all of a sudden the fans started cheering, which forced me to cut short my visit to the bathroom to see what the hell was going on.
I don’t condone the fans being chipper over Jimmy Garoppolo trotting out to take his first snaps under center, especially because Beathard has been the consummate professional. But on the flipside, I understand why they’re so eager to see the man they call Jimmy G.
On his third snap, this happened:

Back to the part where fans were cheering when Beathard was down on the turf trying to collect his thoughts. He’s won the 49ers locker room over with his toughness and deserved better in that situation.
It’ll be tough for Shanahan to remove him from the starting lineup. Just listen to what Eric Reid had to say afterwards:
