Thank you C.J. but it’s time for Jimmy G

Beathard wins but Garoppolo is the future

The 49ers (1-9) have avoided ignominy by winning their first football game of the year. Rookie quarterback C.J. Beathard played an exceptional game in their 31-21 win over the hapless Giants (1-8), throwing for 288 yards and two touchdowns. The Niners and Beathard should quit while they’re ahead.

San Francisco traded a second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft to New England for Jimmy Garoppolo, with the idea that he’ll be the 49ers’ franchise quarterback. In order to confirm their belief in this former Brady backup with a small sample size, the 49ers have to see him perform on the field.

Facing Seattle and their vaunted defense may not seem like the softest landing spot for Jimmy G but considering they’re coming off a bye week, this is the ideal time for his 49er debut.
