Mike Silver, insider for the NFL Network and NFL.com, joined “Mornings W/ Joe, Lo & Dibs” on 95.7 The Game on Tuesday to talk about an array of silver and black topics.

Asked about Jack Del Rio and whether the Oakland Raiders head coach finds himself on the hot seat after his team has slumped to a 2-3 start, Silver offered a nuanced response.

“I mean, the NFL is brutal,” Silver said Joe Fortenbaugh, Lorenzo Neal and Dan Dibley. “And people get on the hot seat more quickly than they should, but I think let's remember what Jack did.”

“This was an organization that went over a decade without a winning season — a lot of struggles and they did a complete rebuild. Dennis Allen was fired during a season and things were not looking good.

“And I thought it wasn't just that Jack got them winning games — and obviously they upgraded the personnel at key positions like quarterback — but I thought Jack really instilled a mentality that was resilient, led to a lot of big, comeback, late game moments.”

“So, I thought Jack earned that (four-year) extension (in February),” Silver said. “And listen, if the Raiders go 2-14 this year, probably everybody is getting fired, but that's just the nature of our business.”

“But in general, I don't think Jack Del Rio should be on the hot seat. I think he's done a really good thing in a place that's proved hard to do it to a lot of his predecessors.”
