With the San Francisco Giants bowing out of the Giancarlo Stanton bidding, the club is pivoting to backup plans. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletics offers up the specifics:

Santana, 25, connected on 30 home runs for the Milwaukee Brewers a season ago. Baseball-Reference projects a 25-homer year in 2018 for the right-fielder, who has four years of club control remaining.

Bruce, who split last season with the New York Mets and the Cleveland Indians, tallied 36 long balls. Baseball-Reference pegs Bruce for 29 homers next year.

Earlier in the day, the Giants lost out on two-way Shohei Ohtani, who had topped the organizational wish list.
