The No. 25 pick in the 2013 draft, Christian Arroyo has long been mentioned in trade speculation. So for San Francisco Giants general manager Bobby Evans it only felt right to always pick up the phone and make sure the prospect knew he wasn’t going anywhere.

That all changed last week when Evans reached out to the third baseman to let him know he was likely to be involved in the upcoming Evan Longoria swap with the Tampa Bay Rays. Evans detailed that situation in an appearance on “The Damon Bruce Show” on 95.7 The Game on Wednesday.

“When I made the call to him about a week ago and said, ‘Hey, your name is going to be in an offer, in a possible trade. So, if you do see a rumor on it, it actually will be accurate,’” Evans told John Dickinson and Rick Tittle who were filling in for Damon.

Evans admitted it was difficult to see a homegrown player depart, but is happy the trade works out, geographically, for Arroyo.

“I think the one thing, if there’s any solace at all in this, for him, was that he’s going to play in Tampa, which is where he’s from.”
